Client Events 2016 Hook Norton Brewery Tour
On Thursday 15th September we hosted our 7th client event of the year: a tour of the Hook Norton Brewery complete with a tasting session at the end.
After gathering in the Visitor Centre our 40 guests split into groups before setting off around the iconic Victorian tower brewery to learn about the history and how the beer is produced. Our guests were impressed to see the original 25hp steam engine, which can drive the machinery just as it has done for the past hundred years. It was installed in 1899 and is believed to be the last steam engine in the country that can still be used for its original purpose. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the steam engine in its full working glory as it is only run on the first Saturday of every month, but seeing and learning about the equipment was extremely interesting.
We then explored the rest of the tower – sometimes climbing some quite steep stairs! We were told how the beer is produced and we were fortunate enough to see the magnificent Shire Horses who still deliver beer to the local pubs in the traditional way before heading back to the Visitor Centre, which is housed in the original malting, for a beer tasting. The whole tour was very interesting and enjoyable and we have already had some lovely feedback from some of the attendees:
“Thank you so much for the Hook Norton tour yesterday. It was so interesting to see how the beer is produced and the tasting was – needless to say – a very enjoyable part of the trip. How gratifying it was to see a relatively small industry obviously prospering in a modern day trading environment. Again, my sincere thanks to all who made this visit possible.”
