Summertown Library Closure
Libraries are valued public spaces which help to create warm communities in which to work and live. Summertown Library lies in the heart of our local community and is widely used by people of all ages for study, reference and leisure pursuits.
The Friends of Summertown Library (FOSL) fought successfully to keep the Library open when it was threatened with closure. Today, while OCC continues to run the Library, it does not have the funds to upgrade and maintain the fabric or facilities to meet the evolving needs of 21st century users.
The Friends have formed a registered charity and have to date raised over £40,000 towards a goal of £300,000 to improve the exterior and interior of the library, including an improved frontage, WiFi, a layout adapted to children and families, bookshelves which can be moved to create meeting spaces, and new carpeting and lighting.
We now invite members of the local business community to join us for wine and refreshments to hear more of our plans and fundraising activities. We much hope you will share with us any suggestions you may have to help us raise the funds we still need to make the Library an up-to-date and vibrant component of the Summertown scene.
Please join the North Oxford team in the Library in South Parade on 18th February at 6.30pm. We look forward to seeing you.
