Filming of Wolf Hall in Oxfordshire
It’s sometimes easy to forget how beautiful Oxfordshire is as an area to reside in. However, this beauty has been somewhat resurrected since the BBC recently completed the filming of the popular Hilary Mantel’s book: Wolf Hall.
Part of the production is being filmed within two stunning Oxfordshire locations which include: Chastleton House and Broughton Castle. This is a great opportunity for many viewers around the country (and the world) get to enjoy the beauty of the Oxfordshire countryside.
Chastleton House which dates from the early 1600s and is managed by the National Trust, has been the location for the family home of the noble Seymour family, and the filming of Wolf Hall, Whitehall, and even Putney High Street. Owned by the family of a wool merchant until 1991, the house remained essentially unchanged for nearly 400 years as the interiors and contents gradually surrendered to the ravages of time.
Broughton Castle on the other hand is set in Banbury North Oxfordshire and still contains much of the original medieval manor house. The manor house was built around 1300 by Sir John de Broughton and stands on an island site surrounded by a three acre moat. The castle was dramatically increased in size between 1550 and 1600, at which time it was elaborated with magnificent plaster ceilings, panelling and fireplaces.
The setting for the filming reiterates the natural beauty that lies within Oxfordshire. We currently have four beautiful detached properties around Broughton Castle and Chastleton House, including:
