Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

Sometimes a wine rack just isn’t enough

We have two fantastic properties on our list at the moment with their own wine cellar to house your bottle collection.

Steventon property

The first is a substantial detached Victorian former vicarage on the edge of Steventon village in South Oxfordshire. This unfurnished home is a blend of traditional and contemporary, having kept many of its original features following an upgrade.

The fusion of new and old is perhaps best displayed in the kitchen, which is newly fitted but has retained the original walk-in pantry. There is an interconnecting breakfast room and the large utility/boot room would be very useful given the excellent country walks surrounding this house. There is plenty of space inside with three large, light, south-facing reception rooms, four double bedrooms and three bathrooms and – as mentioned above – this property even comes with a wine cellar!

Sweeping lawn

Moving outside, the large garden has a sweeping lawn and many mature trees and parking is easy with a secure garage, double car port and driveway space. The village is extremely well served with Co-operative shop and Post Office, a hairdresser, several pubs/restaurants, a fabulous bakery (a personal favourite), a village green complete with cricket pitch and an 18-hole golf course in neighbouring Drayton.

Local business and Science parks are less than a 20 minute drive away (Abingdon Science and Business Parks, Harwell Innovation Centre, Milton Business and Science Park, Culham Science Centre) and access to the A34 and M4 is easy from Steventon Village. Didcot Parkway is a 10 minute drive away, with fast trains to London Paddington (45 mins).

Swerford Lodge House

The second property is a superb detached period Lodge House in an idyllic location on a Private Estate on the edge of the Cotswolds. Stylishly furnished throughout, this home has incredible views over the acres of parkland which surround it.

The fantastic ground floor living accommodation comprises of three reception rooms including separate living and dining rooms, both with attractive fireplaces. The third room could be used as a TV room or study, and has a cloakroom off of it. The main bedroom is on the ground floor and has a stunning en-suite bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle and the remaining three bedrooms are upstairs, as is the main bathroom.

Kitchen with multi-fuel Aga

The gorgeous kitchen has a multi-fuel Aga and the property also has a separate utility room as well as the aforementioned wine cellar. The delightful garden (maintained, at a cost of £50 per week) has space to sit outside and also access to the orangery, which would be ideal for use as a gym or a home office.

Outside space

With a double garage and plenty of driveway space, parking is not an issue at this property. The location is rural without being isolated as Swerford is super for access to Banbury, Oxford and the thriving town of Chipping Norton with plenty of retail therapy including several antique shops and a wide selection of restaurants, inns and pubs as well as a theatre.
