Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

North Abingdon named as the seventh best place to live in Britain

Abingdon Museum

In a recent survey of more than 7,000 districts in England, The Daily Telegraph has named North Abingdon as the seventh best place to live in the country. The supporting research based its results on ratings of factors such as the average income of residents, prosperity and economic activity, level of home ownership, crime statistics and health.

Found approximately 8 miles south of the centre of Oxford, the peaceful riverside market town of Abingdon has evolved around the gates of the town’s historic 7th century Abbey. Whilst the town is substantial enough to lay claim to a variety of good quality local amenities, it has also successfully managed to retain its charm and character. Served by excellent transport links in to Oxford city centre and also regular lines to London Paddington from nearby Didcot Parkway, Abingdon is an ideal location for commuters who wish to bask in the tranquil beauty that South Oxfordshire offers. In addition, the town is also popular with families due to its close proximity to many good local schools including the highly regarded independent Abingdon School. Throughout the year the town hosts a number of events such as the Michaelmas Fair, Science festival and Dragon Boating Day and on Royal occasions the iconic 400 year old bun-throwing ceremony, all helping to create a vibrant sense of community spirit amongst its residents.

Adding to this is the area’s impressive array of property styles available on the rental market to cater for all budgets. For a single person looking for weekday accommodation without the inconvenience and expense of having to rely on hotels, we have the perfect solution: a well presented fully furnished studio (property ref 6613) in nearby Radley with off-street parking, large bathroom and communal garden in a scenic location within 3 miles of the town centre make this an ideal weekday base.

If, however, you are looking for a larger property then this detached former Victorian vicarage (property ref 70128) located in nearby Steventon village is bound to impress. The traditional 4 double bedroom property has retained many of its original features whilst successfully incorporating some carefully selected more contemporary aspects such as a newly fitted kitchen/breakfast room and 3 well finished bathrooms. A large garden with sweeping lawn, secure garage and gravel drive make this property an attractive family home.
