Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

My favourite property

50444-Osney (6)

Our Office Managers and Letting Department Managers know their portfolio of properties like the back of their hands. From Cotswold Cottages to Georgian Manors we have let them all. Here each office chooses a property due to come on the market that excites them the most:

North Oxford

Wolvercote, Ref. 3935

For all those garden lovers out there this is a dream property. A stone’s throw away from Port Meadow you will find this delightfully presented 4-bedroom house tucked away in a secluded part of Upper Wolvercote. Experience your own piece of the Botanical Gardens in this peaceful oasis. Get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy the atmosphere and tranquility. The landlord is a botanist by profession and has put much love into this property’s garden. The property has two reception rooms, a downstairs study and a large open-plan kitchen/breakfast room.

Central Oxford

City Centre, Ref. 50444

For a piece of Oxfordshire history within walking distance of Oxford city, Osney Mill gets my recommendation. The historic mill was destroyed by a fire in the mid-40s, and only recently redeveloped into 12 stylish and cosmopolitan homes. This Osney Mill townhouse is set on 3 floors, with high-spec features throughout, including under floor heating and a glass floor with views of the canal below. An Archimedes’ screw on the development provides hydroelectric power and air-source heat pumps make the property 100% energy efficient. The master bedroom and open-plan kitchen/living room have beautiful views overlooking the river. The peaceful canal sits next to the building, and the lovely 500m island – which serves as communal space for the residents of Osney Mill – is perfect for picnics.

Bicester

Tackley, Ref. 35308

The landlords bought this property as part of a large estate where they built their own home. Initially they had planned on demolishing the Old Farmhouse. However, bats were discovered in the attic and they found that a preservation order meant they could not do this. The landlords spared no effort and no expense in getting the property up to scratch and it shows – Heritage bathroom suites and LED lighting throughout. It has been beautifully renovated and finished to an extremely high standard to breathe new life into the property. The retention of a number of character features and significant landscaping form a stylish contemporary property in a fantastic estate location that is still within easy driving distance to Oxford. The current tenant had been looking in North Oxford but fell in love with the location and the quality of the work done at the property.

Witney

Woodstock, Ref. 15963

We have had this Victorian townhouse on our books for a number of years and it has been a property that has always let very well, the location being the primary appeal for me. This house is in an absolutely fantastic location, slap-bang in the beautiful historic market town of Woodstock. Right in the hub of the lively centre with cute village cafés, boutique shops and restaurants right on your doorstop. Residents in this property are able to apply for a resident’s pass into the grounds of BlenheimPalace, the back gate of which is literally a 5-minute walk from the house. The Palace offers some of the most beautiful views in Oxfordshire. The town of Charlbury is a short drive up the road and Long Hanborough train station is but a 5-minute car journey, with trains that will take you into Oxford and London in no time at all.

15963-High Street (6)

Banbury

Wroxton, Ref. 12984

This is a beautiful property in the centre of this village just outside Banbury with 4 goodsized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It has been refurbished to a high standard, retaining fireplaces, shutters, window seats, wooden floors and beams. It is quite atmospheric inside and has a lovely mature garden and thatched roof. This property belonged to an existing client who let this property (formerly her own home) via another agent. She liked our service on the first property she instructed us with, and let us have this one. When we first approached the landlord with the current tenant, she was reluctant to accept pets in the property but the perfect applicant had a 3-year-old English Springer Spaniel – exactly the same breed as the landlord’s own dog! The landlord agreed to the letting, and they became good friends, often walking the dogs together.

Abingdon

Childrey, Ref. 6917

To the south of Oxfordshire in the delightful village of Childrey, near Wantage, a stunning and spaciously laid out detached barn conversion sits on the edge of the Berkshire Downs. This 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home has a large and bright dining room/kitchen and a living room with exposed brickwork and open fire. The very simple layout of the house is well proportioned and perfect for a family. Beautifully finished throughout, a very minimalistic style highlights the sense of space that this property has to offer. The walled garden to the rear is ideal for entertaining and enjoying the surrounding countryside, an area of spectacular natural beauty. The simplistic design of the conversion gives away none of the magic that lies behind closed doors. There are plenty of unique features hidden away in this house. This is my fantasy property, my Narnia!
