Annual summer cricket match
What a summer of exciting sport: Germany won the World Cup, Djokovic and Kvitova won at Wimbledon, Rory McIlroy won the Open Championship and Finders Keepers won at the annual FK versus Contractors Cricket Match!
We have a good relationship with our contractors, and we host an annual Finders Keepers vs. Contractors cricket match at Horspath Cricket Club. As we arrived at the club we were delighted to see the new enhanced bar and viewing area and we were welcomed by the smell of a delicious barbecue (expertly cooked by Emma Croft-Pearson from our Banbury office).
FK went in to bat on a slightly green wicket following the tornado the evening before, feeling confident that they had a capable squad. Perhaps this confidence and the ‘relaxed’ atmosphere led one or two to swing a little too much which resulted in some very big sixes and some unnecessary catches. They finished with 122.
The famous FK tea break was the usual triumph with fabulous sandwiches, glorious cakes and sublime scones all washed down with beer brewed in the village.
The Contractors went out feeling that they had just enough power to pull off a win and reclaim the trophy which they lost last year in the final over. Again, some ‘inexperienced’ bowling and big swings generated some impressive sixes and some unfortunate catches. However, 20 overs just wasn’t quite enough to reach the target, and we are proud to say that FK retain the trophy for another year!
