Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

10 lets, tears and gossip: a busy week in Witney

Finders Keepers first to let a property in Buttercross Lane

Our Witney team were on fire last week, letting 10 properties from town centre apartments to village family homes. Here we have a closer look at some of the lets:

Perhaps the most impressive let was the Buttercross Lane house (photo above). Not only did this let on the first viewing but it is the very first property on the new development to be let.

The landlord resides abroad at the moment but was keen to get his foot on the UK property ladder with a buy-to-let. He made the enquiry with the local developer and they recommended that he contact Finders Keepers. Collette Lally, Senior Letting Manager, advised the client on which plot to go for,   suggesting that a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house was the best option for him.

Our letting team let the property to a couple who had recently started working locally, but were having to commute many miles every day. The property was ideal for them in terms of location, size, and it also has parking for 2 cars. The tenants moved in within a week of the landlord gaining possession – slick letting indeed.

Lovely 2 bedroom apartment in a village location

The above photo, in Charlbury, was another victory. A young applicant came into the office desperate to find a property in the area. She had recently secured a great job with a motor racing team and had been trying to find a property remotely from Durham but properties were letting before she could view them. We took her to see this property immediately and she was so happy to find somewhere that she promptly burst into tears – we think they were happy tears…

Elsewhere in Charlbury, we let a 3 bedroom semi-detached home (photo below) to a retired couple who were already renting in the village. They love Charlbury and were eager to stay locally and so enquired about this property. The only catch was that they have a small dog and the landlord would not accept pets. What finally swung it was a friend of the landlord’s friend knew this couple from the village and assured him that they and their dog would not cause problems – this is possibly the only time you would be pleased to be part of village gossip!
