Oxfordshire Property Seminar
On Wednesday 3rd July 50 of our clients joined us at Oxford’s Town Hall for a seminar where we could update them on the latest information from Parliament and what tenants expect from a rental property in 2013.
The highlight was our guest speaker, Mike Morgan, who is Head of Adjudication at The Dispute Service. He discussed betterment and fair wear & tear in relation to end of tenancy check outs with examples of how to calculate what you could reasonably charge a tenant for replacing damaged items.
Following on from this, we had a panel of three Letting Managers and Letting Department Managers discussing tenant expectations in 2013. This included the quality that tenants expect for their money and also how interested tenants are in a property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.
Dan Channer from Finders Keepers then updated clients on The Green Deal and why a Commons Select Committee is investigating the Private Rental Sector (more on this in our upcoming summer newsletter) before Mark Cairns from Bricks & Mortar ran through a case study of a property upgrade. Finally, Liz Higgins from Critchleys discussed tax tips for landlords including wear & tear allowances for furnished properties and tax planning for the eventual sale of a property.
After the presentations, guests enjoyed wine and canapés and the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the speakers, Finders Keepers staff members, and other like-minded individuals.
