Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

Jericho named as one of the coolest places to live in Britain

The Times has listed Jericho in Oxford as one of the 30 coolest places to live in Britain. This wasn’t news to us though. We love Jericho and always have, which is why we included it as one of the top places to live on our Area Guide.

In the Bible, Jericho signifies a ‘remote place’ and could have referred to the area’s location just outside the Oxford city walls. It was originally a place for travelers to rest if they had reached the city after the gates had closed. Nowadays, as a result of its convenient location close to the city centre, Jericho has become a desirable area for young professionals. The impressive offices of Oxford University Press dominate Walton Street, which runs through Jericho from one end to the other. It is lively during the day and even more so at night as it attracts numerous visitors to its art house cinema, salsa at Freud’s and many restaurants.

Jericho is in a great location with Oxford train station less than a mile away, with fast trains to Reading and London Paddington, and regular buses run to London from Gloucester Green bus station in the city centre.

Our team were asked to describe Jericho, and this is what they came up with:

The area’s personality in three words… Vibrant, bohemian, cool

If the town were a celebrity, it would be… Kate Moss

If the town put on a party, the party would be…a Mardi Gras celebration

As for claims to fame? Jericho often featured in the Inspector Morse series!

Want to live in Jericho?

This modern town house is a short walk from the centre of Jericho and from Port Meadow – the best of both worlds! It has 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, is fully furnished and available mid-April. The property has a small patio and comes with off-street parking, and there is good access to the A34/M40 from here.

We also have a stylishly converted apartment located in the heart of Jericho. It has one bedroom, one shower room and a study. This property also comes with off-street parking and has a fully maintained garden (included in the rent). The apartment is fully furnished and available mid-June.
