Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

Delighted – we’ve won the Sunday Times Best Letting Agent Award

You could say that Friday was quite a surreal day.

Two of our directors, Frank Webster and Simon Tyrrell, went to the Sunday Times Letting Agent awards. Expectations were not low but neither were they sky high. We’ve had a good year but it is a ferocious industry out there with standards, particularly from some of the London agents, getting higher and higher.

So we were stunned, shocked but full of joy to win several awards.

We had entered two categories: Property Management and Medium Sized Agent.

Just as we were adjusting to winning ‘Gold’ in the Property Management, we won ‘Gold’ in our area for Best Medium and then Best Medium overall.

Then the three winners of Small, Medium and Large went head-to-head and – to our amazement – the compere, Matthew Pinsent, read our name out.

We’ll update this with some photos and video when we get them from the organisers, in the meantime here is the official press release…

Finders Keepers, Oxfordshire’s premier lettings agency has done it again, scooping the UK’s Best Medium Letting Agency and The UK’s Best Overall Lettings Agency, in the Sunday Times and The Times Estate Agency of the Year Awards 2012.

Finders Keepers which celebrates its 40th year in business this year,  is renowned throughout Oxfordshire and has client relationships that stretch back over four decades. Started by Mary Channer in 1972, the company focuses solely on lettings and has grown from humble beginnings into a full service agency with eight offices and over 100 staff.

Targeting some of the most affluent areas of the UK including Central Oxford and the Cotswolds, Finders Keepers also manages accommodation for one of the largest and most prestigious body of students in the country.

This is the second time that Finders Keepers has pipped other much larger names to the post and the judges cited the company’s expertise as a key factor in their win, commenting: “Finders Keepers prides itself on its staff’s extensive knowledge of the market, which is why the firm invests heavily in staff training, and why each staff member has a bespoke annual training plan. The judges agreed that this agency’s vast range of services, incredible attention to detail and exceptional customer service make it the clear overall winner of the 2012 Lettings Agency of the Year Awards.”

Dan Channer, Commercial Director and son of the founder, reaffirms this by saying, “When Finders Keepers was started it was in response to the need for a good local lettings agency that could provide a full service to landlords. At that time the company looked at how people were managing their properties and what support they needed from their agent.

“Today our business has grown into a company that can advise on how to maximise the potential of any property, take it through planning and develop it, interior design and furnish it, find a tenant and then manage it.  Although we take technology very seriously and have heavily invested in this, it is the personal contact with the staff that we believe keeps our clients coming back to us, year after year.

“When we are nominated for awards such as this it is a great honour but to win in two categories, including one that recognises us on a nationwide level, is just incredible. It underlines the success and hard work of everyone involved with Finders Keepers.  We have a great team.”

Finders Keepers has a portfolio of over 2500 managed properties covering Oxfordshire and the fringes of Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, encompassing city apartments, family homes, country houses and estates and important character properties.
