The fair came to town
Wednesday 19 October saw the arrival of the annual Michaelmas Fair in Banbury which remains in the town centre until late on Friday 21 October. This is the largest street event to be held in Banbury and is a well known local tradition dating back to 1718 when George 1st granted a New Charter to the local people.
The fair is traditionally opened by the Town Mayor who is given a ‘Golden Key’ with which to open, he then tours the rides, stalls and amusements with an entourage of children who are given a free ride when each carousel is struck with the golden key.
The fair transforms Banbury town centre stretching from Bridge Street and Market Place up to North Bar and Horsefair where the traditional Galloping Horses are sited next to Banbury Cross, the statue of a Fine Lady upon a white horse, and our Banbury Office!
We hope you enjoy it – pop in and see us if you are looking for property to rent in Banbury.
