Ending Your Tenancy

From 1st May 2026 most contracts* will be Assured Periodic Tenancies, which will roll on until either party gives notice to terminate. As a tenant, you have the right to end your tenancy at any time by giving your landlord proper notice. This means giving at least two months’ notice in writing.

How to Give Notice
To ensure your notice is valid, you should:

  1. Put it in writing: This can be via email or letter. Always keep a copy for your records.
  2. Include important details:
    1. Your full name(s)
    2. The property address
    3. The date you are giving notice
    4. The date you intend to leave
  3. Send it to the correct person: Check your tenancy agreement to confirm whether to send it to your landlord or to Finders Keepers. If you are sending it to us, please ensure you send it to the office address, not an individual person:

*This will not apply to Non-Housing Act tenancies, for example if the contract is a company let, or if the property is not the tenant’s main and principal home.
