Our History - Finders Keepers
In business since 1972
Founded on principles of professionalism, integrity, quality and value
In the year in which the New Seekers were hoping to teach the world to sing (in perfect harmony), Mary Channer was thinking about other lessons in life. Working within the rented property industry, she was aware that the reputation of landlords and letting agents was not great, to say the least. She was convinced that things could be very much better, and founded a business to test her theory.
She began with an advertisement in The Oxford Times offering a property acquisition service. She soon had numerous clients, asking her not only to acquire property for them, but also to manage it. They were attracted to her founding principles, which remain in place to this day:
- Aim to deliver the most professional service possible
- Offer quality tenants quality properties, owned by quality landlords
- Act with integrity in order to build long-term relationships
As it turned out, these principles were not only ethically sound, they also made good business sense. A professional attitude attracts quality clients. A portfolio of professionally managed properties is easier to let " and delivers more rental income. Integrity pays dividends long term: Oxfordshire is a small place, and good word got around, fuelling the growth of FindersKeepers as a professional, well-trusted Letting Specialist.
Mary opened the first Oxford office in 1977, with the opening of the Abingdon office following five years later. Since then, we have opened offices in East Oxford, Banbury, Witney, Central Oxford and Bicester. Today, our broad range of property services covers all of Oxfordshire, and beyond.
Since our foundation, we have gradually added services that appeal to professional landlords. Our Bricks and Mortar service was launched because so many of our clients had stories to tell of painfully slow building projects that had gone over- budget. This business now handles substantial building projects and quality upgrades. Our Decorum Interiors business offers high-quality interior design that takes account of the need for furniture that is durable enough for the rental marketplace.
More recently, our FK Shared Letting business was the first dedicated student office in Oxford. Its precise approach to letting, with simultaneous launch dates and parental guarantors has been copied (with varying degrees of success) by competitors within and beyond Oxford.
Today, we remain committed to our founding principles. We remain focused on professionalism, quality and integrity. These may sound like old-fashioned values, but our experience is that, in today's highly competitive and fast-moving business world, they are more important than ever. They remain what sets us apart. They continue to underpin our success.
