Under the skin of the letting market

Here we share news and views on both the local letting market in & around Oxfordshire and all planned and recent legislation.

Are you tough enough to be a Property Manager?

"Warning - cat in residence!"

Witney Office Property Managers’ nerves have been tested nearly to destruction over the last few weeks.  One discovered a grenade whilst checking a property once the tenants had left.  The police were swiftly called and attended and were given the former tenant’s contact details. That gentleman rang us up rather sheepishly a day later. It was, in fact a live smoke grenade, indistinguishable from the real thing to a layman’s eye. And where grenades are concerned, our property managers are not experts.

On a lighter note, his colleague was somewhat concerned to find a note stuck to the door as he was about to enter a property and carry out a routine inspection.  The note read “Important – Read before entry” – thankfully it was just warning him about the cat in residence, who did turn out to be a total pussy cat.

As though this wasn’t enough, property management duties this month included preparing a rental property for their boss the office manager and his notoriously discerning wife to move into, with only a two day turnaround period following the previous three year tenancy. The incoming tenants declared themselves satisfied after a thorough inspection. Finders Keepers staff are also landlords, and tenants – we really do “know the feeling”.
