One FK Landlord goes the extra mile for Sobell House Hospice
…or rather, the extra 13.1 miles. Our Finders Keepers Student Letting Landlord, Patricia Lee, ran the Great North Run on Sunday 20th September 2009 to raise money for Sobell House Hospice. Read her account of the day below:
Great North Run, Sunday 20th September 2009
Although my home is now on the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire in the heart of the Pennines, I have enjoyed a long and happy association with Oxford. I was an undergraduate at LMH, married a Balliol man and our children have all recently followed in our footsteps to Balliol, Trinity and Magdalen. Consequently we still own a small house in St Clements and so it was I learned from Finders Keepers, our outstanding letting agents, that Sobell House was to be their charity of the year for 2009.
It might, of course, have been prudent to do at least some training before embarking upon a half-marathon but I’d pinged off an e-mail to Simon Tyrrell and his team and requested a Great Run entry form before considering the dire and inevitable consequences. Still, despite the agony on the day and walking like a duck for weeks afterwards, the event is always spectacular and with only a couple for weeks to go I tried to focus less on the prospect of pain and more on raising as much as possible for this wonderful cause. It was also fun mingling with the crowd of celebrity runners at the start line and they were more than happy to endorse my support for Sobell House by being photographed with the woman who would go on to take 35,446th place!
Many thanks to them and also one of Sobell House Hospice’s trustees, Viv, who managed out of 50,000 runners to spot my T-shirt and as she ran past, call out “Gooooooooo Sobell House”! I had a fabulous day and very much hope to reach my target of raising £500. Donations can be made on www.justgiving.com/running-scared
